Material Test from a Height
Only those who are familiar with the individual materials and deficiencies can assess and take into account the overall risks. Therefore, testing and monitoring vehicle components is extremely important in order to detect material fatigue in advance and the accompanying limits.
With our in-house drop tower at the DEKRA Technology Center, we therefore test individual vehicle components extensively and subject them to a strength test. To this end, the components are arranged on a patch and a weight of up to 300 kg, as a maximum, falls on the test body. The fall height is also variable; for our drop tower, the limit is a maximum of 3 meters. The test is measured using sensors, high-speed cameras, video analysis, and other measurement data collection systems, which determine the exact consideration of material and component behavior under conditions relevant to a crash and consequently deliver findings.
In addition to material tests on individual vehicle components, we also test crash deformation elements within the framework of the Formula Student SAE as well as all other materials according to the customer’s wishes.
