Crash Tests for Racing
Safety in Racing
In racing, not only is the driver’s body exposed to heavy loads; in view of the high speeds, the topic of safety likewise sees itself constantly exposed to new challenges. Therefore, crash tests are of enormous importance in the racing industry.
The DEKRA Crash Test Center has also made a name for itself as a trustworthy partner in the racing scene and has already carried out numerous tests for the FIA Institute for Motorsport Safety. Here, it is not just about reaching the immense crash speeds (up to over 240 km/h are achievable) and analyzing their consequences in the event of an accident. It is also possible for us to use various racing vehicles (formula car bodies, racing cars, and many more) to test, for example, high-speed barriers in our crash tests.
High-speed barriers are aimed at protecting the impacting driver from serious injury and enabling fast rescue. The result are new barriers for race tracks, which are safer, more versatile and easier to use. An example of this is the so-called TECPRO barrier. It was developed in crash tests at the DEKRA Crash Test Center of the company TECPRO in collaboration with the FIA and is used today on many new race tracks.
