DEKRA accredited for Zhaga Book 18 Ed. 3.0 certification

Another important step towards interoperability for street lighting International product testing & certification organization DEKRA has become one of the first labs worldwide to be accredited as a test house for the third edition of the Zhaga Book 18 (Ed. 3.0). The company also led the way in certifying products according to the earlier editions of the book: Ed. 1.0 in 2018 and Ed. 2.0 in late 2019. Edition 3.0 – which is once again based on a collaborative partnership between the Zhaga Consortium and the DALI Alliance (DiiA) – allows for the additional testing of outdoor luminaire architectures with an ANSI (NEMA) receptacle. Thanks to this accreditation, the DEKRA experts can test in line with the full scope of Book 18.

Certification in accordance with Zhaga Book 18

Zhaga Book 18 paves the way for the transition to future-proof street lighting. Interoperability makes it easier to add the necessary components to outdoor luminaires at any desired moment, thus creating a ‘plug-and-play’ situation. As a result, ‘smart’ lighting can truly live up to its name by responding flexibly to changing environmental situations.
A growing number of governments only want to use products that have been certified in line with the Zhaga Book 18 Ed. 3.0. The Zhaga-D4i logo guarantees that the product is interchangeable with other certified products. The certification assures users that architectures are equipped to work in combination with the very latest generation of communication modules and nodes/sensors. DEKRA is at the forefront of this development thanks to the combination of its smart technology expertise with its long history of certifying Zhaga products.

What’s new in Edition 3.0?

The new edition enables luminaire manufacturers to combine an ANSI C136.41 dimming receptacle with a Zhaga receptacle, in addition to the combinations already specified in Ed. 2.0. The Zhaga-D4i certification is now available for this hybrid combination. The addition of an ANSI interface creates more flexibility, which enables designers to choose the option that is the best solution for their particular region and needs.
