Certification According to ISCC EU
Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Meet Additional Environmental and Social Requirements
The need for sustainable practices is particularly important in the production and processing of biomass.
For this reason, the European Union has created the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC EU), a standard that aims to minimize environmental impact while considering social aspects to promote holistic, sustainable development. ISCC EU focuses on conformity with EU directives, in particular with the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II).
Your ISCC EU Certification at a Glance
Our ISCC EU certification is aimed at companies operating in a wide range of sectors including those working in biomass, waste, residues and non-biological renewable energy sources as well as those handling recycled carbon materials and products made from them. This includes agricultural businesses and agricultural trade, oil and sugar factories, biodiesel and ethanol plants as well as biofuel trading companies.
Our network of highly qualified international auditors is at your side to ensure that your value chain meets strict ISCC standards at every stage with ISCC EU certification ensuring the responsible use of resources throughout a transparent and sustainable value chain.
Power to X - Our commitment
DEKRA is actively involved in the Power-to-X (PtX) initiative, which promotes the conversion of renewable electricity into fuels, gases and other products using green hydrogen. This process supports the transition to CO2-neutral energy sources and the achievement of ambitious greenhouse gas reduction targets. Green hydrogen will play a key role in achieving these goals in various industries. ISCC has developed a certification approach for Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO), which has been submitted to the European Commission for approval. Once approved, ISCC certification of RFNBOs will be possible in the European Union.
- Registration and selection of the certification body
The certification process begins with your registration with ISCC and the selection of a recognized certification body. The time frame and content of the certification is defined in a certification contract. - Project meeting and pre-audit (optional)
Clarification of open questions and definition of the next steps; if necessary, the project meeting takes place on site or a pre-audit is carried out. - Certification audit on site
Document review and examination of your ISCC EU system and the implementation of your documented statements in day-to-day business. - ISCC EU audit report and certificate
After successful completion of the audit, you will receive your audit report and your ISCC EU certificate. Important: If your company does not meet essential criteria of the ISCC EU standard, corrective measures must be implemented within 40 days and checked by the auditor.
Annual audit
ISCC EU certificates are valid for twelve months, requiring recertification at the end of this period. Recertification audits should be planned in such a way that there is no gap between two certificates.
