Opening planned for second half of 2025
ZF Test Systems is the central supplier for the new DEKRA Battery Test Center
- Focus on energy management and integration of test systems
- The site will become a reference laboratory
- All types of battery tests from a single source
The new DEKRA Battery Test Center at the DEKRA Lausitzring in the German state of Brandenburg is taking shape. Construction, which began last summer, is progressing; the opening is planned for the second half of 2025. As the central supplier and a cooperation partner for the new test facility, ZF Test Systems is on board.
“The integration of the individual test stands into an overall system is crucial for smooth and safe operation in every-day business. That's why it was important for us to have a partner with extensive expertise in implementing such projects,” says Thomas Hucke, head of the DEKRA Battery Test Center. “In addition, a central component of the test center is the system for feeding and distributing energy via a DC link, which enables the careful use of resources. Testing and inspecting large modules and battery packs requires large amounts of energy as well as a high degree of dynamics and accuracy – everything must be well coordinated to function smoothly.” The laboratory management system, the higher-level software solution for operating the test center, also comes from ZF.
“Our solutions for battery safety centers are precisely tailored to customer requirements and ensure the highest safety standards in sensor technology and control,” says Markus Kramer, Head of Sales and Product Management at ZF Test Systems. ”The focus is on efficient processes – here we are contributing 20 years of experience in battery test field construction in Europe. We are pleased to have not only a customer in DEKRA, but also a true partner that contributes its own expertise and the experience gained from operating the test center to the table for developing the systems of tomorrow.”
The intention is to work together continuously on the further development of hardware and software in the field of certification and release testing of batteries. “This development partnership is not only an advantage for both companies, but above all for our customers. They benefit from the fact that we can always offer our services at the cutting edge of technological development,” says Thomas Hucke.
As part of their cooperation, DEKRA and ZF Test Systems have also agreed to combine their different service portfolios for the benefit of their customers. Among other things, the DEKRA Battery Test Center will act as a reference laboratory for ZF Test Systems' testing technology.
The new facility will offer all types of battery tests under one roof – including mechanical, performance and environmental testing, as well as so-called abuse tests. In these tests, batteries are subjected to stresses that far exceed their regular use. The safety standards at the new facility are correspondingly high. All services are offered to support development, as well as for homologation, certification, quality assurance, and market surveillance. “This makes us a true full-service provider and better positioned than comparable test centers for comprehensive testing requirements at the site,” explains Hucke.
